She now states she has no purpose in life and flat-out says she doesn't want to be a mother to her three remaining daughters. Even when I think they're probably right about something, there's something so OFF about them. I hope someone in her family can get her out of this, so that she can at least keep her child. What about him being tricked into marrying one of them that he didn't even want? I'm not even Christian, but I know he's wrong about this. Plus, his idea that the bible advocates polygamy and yet he never asked for her family's permission and married her in secret, not thinking that, since women are property biblically speaking, he stole her! If he lived in biblical times, her family would probably have lynched him unless he could pay them off with a large dowry. I actually don't have any problem with polyamory, but it has to be non-exploitative.Įverything about this situation was icky, from the guy's complicated background, the fact that he'd been a father-figure to her as a small child, her age - just over the point of legality, the fact that he didn't even wait for her to reach twenty before he got her pregnant - knowing that her baby will immediately be taken away from her, his use of the word 'submissive' when praising his wives (if you want to persuade us that they make their own decisions, that's not going to help).
Phil creeps me out on occasion, but here I thought he was pretty spot on.
